Maverick Personal Storytelling Collective
The Maverick Personal Storytelling Collective (MPSC) is a writing group for MSU students who want to turn their life experiences into meaningful stories that contribute to broader conversations about our world. Stories can come from any experience that has shaped how you see yourself or the world, whether through identity, relationships, school, work, or everyday life. The MPSC helps students turn those experiences into stories others can connect with.
Throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, student storytellers of the MPSC will:
- Share early drafts of their work at a live storytelling event hosted by CESR
- Present their final stories as part of a special session at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in April 2027
- Publish their completed pieces as part of a special collection in Cornerstone, MSU’s institutional repository
- Funding will also be available to support MPSC members who are interested in presenting or publishing their work (e.g., conference registration, APCs)
The group will meet in-person every three weeks on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:30pm (CSU 204), with the first meeting on September 1. Meetings will include a mix of guided writing exercises, sharing drafts and discussion, and opportunities to connect with others. The group will be facilitated by Dr. Aaron Hoy, CESR Director, with guest visits and support from other MSU faculty.
The group is goal-oriented, but participation is flexible. You can join at any point, and while working toward a finished story, you can attend meetings as you’re able and share drafts only when you feel ready.
The MPSC is open to all current MSU students, including undergraduates and graduate students, regardless of major, GPA, or class standing. If you’d like to participate, just complete the MPSC Interest Form.
